Cultural collections case study:

Fred Williams Estate

Requirement

Fred Williams – celebrated as one of the finest artists of the Australian landscape in the twentieth century, was also recognized as one of Australia's best portrait artists.  He had more than seventy solo exhibitions during his career in Australian galleries, as well as the exhibition Fred Williams - Landscapes of a Continent at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1977.  With this impressive exposure his vast body of work was seen as deserving of being comprehensively catalogued and featured exclusively on a dedicated website.

Solution

In a three-year project, Media Equation (me™) proudly worked with the Fred Williams Estate to oversee:

  • the high end digital capture and cataloguing of an extensive retrospective collection comprising of hundreds of works
  • the creation of a biographical website of Fred Williams, featuring selected works, and segmented into key career timeline periods
  • the creation of the lookat.me™ Fred Williams Image Gallery offering access to over 300 selected works

Benefit

The cultural art legacy of one of Australia's greatest and most influential artists is now to be shared and explored on the Web.  Reproduction quality scans of selected works are now available through the lookat.me site.
